Climate Resilient Placemaking

Post-occupancy evaluation studies

These studies evaluate the impact and effectiveness of microclimatic design measures. The studies compare pre- and post-redevelopment scenarios and evaluate pedestrians' subjective thermal sensations by taking synchronised environmental data measurements from urban microclimate simulation models and conducting on-site thermal comfort surveys.

Mousing over reveals the psychological equivalent temperatures (PETs) at different times of day.

Most of the time is within acceptable comfort range.

PET measurement at four onsite locations
  • Warm (35 - 40)
  • Slightly warm (28-35)
  • Netural(22-27)
  • Slightly cool (~21)

Before and After Development

No microclimatic impact to surrounding neighbourhood despite a 40% increase of development intensity, with building height variations and stepping building mass.
